When will I get my grade?

When you submit a response to an open response assessment, you may have to wait for your submission may be reviewed and graded by:

  • yourself. This is called the assess your response step. You’ll receive your self-assessment score as soon as you assess yourself and submit.
  • your peers in the course. This is called the assess peers step. You will be required to review the submissions of other learners, and you may have to wait for a grade from your peers.
  • your instructors. This is called the staff grade step. You may have to wait for a grade from course staff.

If you view your response, a message will indicate if you’re waiting on a staff grade or on your peers.

Under the Assess Peers step, Waiting for Assessments means you’re waiting on your peers to asses your response.

Under the Staff Grade step, Waiting for a Staff Grade indicates that you’re still waiting for course staff to evaluate your response. As edX courses are open and entirely online, our courses may have high enrollment numbers. So, it can take time for course staff to assess each response.

Note: Course staff can grade your ORA if you’re waiting on peer assessments. To request that staff manually grade your ORA, you should reach out to course staff through the course discussion forum.
